Our Mission

The Temple Hoyne Buell Foundation is a professional philanthropic organization supporting the positive development of children through grants and partnerships with other sectors of our community.  The Foundation will focus primarily on the state of Colorado and concentrate its grantmaking on programs that benefit children.

Our Focus

The Buell Foundation currently funds in two areas of interest:

  • Early Childhood Education and Development - We will consider proposals in the following areas that directly support the healthy development of very young children: early childhood and preschool programs, home visitation, professional development and education for service providers, parent and child interaction, parenting education, language development/early literacy, parent information and support, nutrition and physical activity in early learning environments, and behavior and social competence in classroom situations.  The Foundation also supports systems building work around these issues.

  • Teen Pregnancy Prevention - Programs should be comprehensive and should be able to prove effectiveness.

Our funding priority at this time is on programs that support the education and development of children zero to five.  In the last fiscal year, over 90% of grants paid were in that category.  As we move forward, our work will increasingly concentrate on this pivotal time in a young child’s life.  In addition, please note that it is also a priority for the Foundation to fund programs in rural Colorado.  In recent years, over 65% of grants were awarded to programs serving communities outside the Denver metro area.

We encourage phone calls and would be happy to talk with you at anytime during the grantmaking process. Our number is 303-744-1688, and our office hours are Monday - Friday from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.  You can also contact us via email - see staff list on the Contact Us page.

Buell Early Childhood Leadership Program is Recruiting for 2016/2017 Cohort

The field of early care and education is growing and changing.  We need leaders who can navigate these changes to insure that all young children have access to the experiences and services they need to succeed.

The Buell Early Childhood Leadership Program is committed to creating equity, opportunity, and educational excellence for all young children and families in Colorado.  This tuition-free, 18-credit graduate certificate program is open to individuals from across the state who are working in all aspects of early care and education – in the classroom, in the home, in health care settings, at policy tables.

We are recruiting now for the 2016/2017 academic year.  For more information, please visit the BECLP website at the University of Colorado at Denver here.
